Our earthenware pieces are made from secondary clay, which contains plant bark and husk, seeds, and inorganic materials, so the color can vary slightly from red to brown. Additionally, as the material is molded, glazed, and loaded into the kiln, minor imperfections can occur, like pin holes from the firing process, small chips and cracks, and marks due to running glaze. If the kiln is wood-fired, there may be more variation in the texture and color given the less predictable nature of fire and the presence of ash; gas-fired kilns, on the other hand, tend to have a little more control over the temperature, resulting in a more evenly fired piece.
